A 40-Person Startup Headshot Day
A Series-B fintech team ran a 40-person headshot day in the 1,850 sq ft Studio 1720 at 545 8th Ave in Midtown Manhattan, with a makeup station and a tethered review setup, moving everyone through in a single afternoon.

The brief
A growing fintech company needed consistent, current headshots for a team that had roughly doubled since the last round of photos. The goal was simple to state and hard to execute: forty people, one look, one afternoon, with images that would sit next to each other on a team page without one person's shot looking lit differently from the next. The team was distributed, so the day also had to work around people arriving on staggered schedules.
The setup
We ran it in Studio 1720 because the 1,850 sq ft floor gave room for a standing lighting setup, a makeup touch-up station, and a small waiting area without anyone crowding the set. The lighting was locked once at the start of the day and left untouched, which is the single biggest factor in keeping forty portraits consistent. A tethered review station let the producer check framing and expression on a larger screen between subjects and mark selects live, so nobody left the chair without a usable frame. A schedule of about twelve minutes per person kept the line moving while still leaving time to settle each subject.
How it ran
With the lighting fixed and the workflow tethered, the day moved at a steady rhythm: touch-up, sit, a handful of frames, a quick review, next person. Because the studio is two blocks from Penn Station, team members commuting in from outside the city arrived without a second subway leg, which mattered for keeping the staggered schedule on track. The full team was photographed inside the booked block with time to spare.
Takeaway
For a large team headshot day, lock the lighting once and never touch it — consistency across forty portraits comes from the setup staying still, not from fixing it later.
